USA Swimming Olympic Time Trials – Family Time

Did you watch the USA Olympic swim trials this week?  On June 25th the kids and I watched all the professional swimmers compete at the time trials and it was nerve racking.  I was on the edge of my seat watching them race and although I was amazed at how most of the time there was a very obvious winner a few times several of the swimmers stayed pretty neck and neck.

I was live tweeting the whole time we watched and joining others in conversation by using hashtag #SwimToday which is still going on throughout the time trials and the Summer Olympics.  If you have been watching and are on Twitter I encourage you to join the conversation by using that hashtag so you can find other like-minded individuals on Twitter to chat with.  Plus it’s a fun way to cheer on your favorite swimmer.

Some of my favorite tweets from the night.

The kids literally learned so much watching the USA Swimming Olympic time trials. It was slightly overwhelming for my youngest son at first, who still is a little nervous about water but he finally got excited with me about the swimmers. It also opened up a great conversation about how you can do anything you put your mind to and work hard at with lots of practice. I used his teeball/baseball team as an example and he truly understood. The kids also thought it was pretty cool that I was on a swim team when I was younger, that was something I had not told them yet.

My son has really gotten into the television show, Wipe Out. Since that show is all about competing and athletic races I think this summer is the perfect time to introduce him to the real Olympics. We plan to watch some of the competitions and cheer on the USA team!
