Getting married is a big deal. But it seems that the figure of marriages ending in divorce is rising. So with that comes the fear that many brides are not fully taking on the decision to get married. Of course, it’s easy to get lost in the whole wedding planning process. Some people are not considerate to how scary some of the decisions you make during this process are.
While I’m sure if you are reading this and you are finding the planning difficult, it might not be because you are not into your marriage. It might be because you are facing some of the scariest decisions within the process. I thought I would highlight a few and hope that they offer you a little bit of advice.
Writing your own vows
It has become quite popular to write your own wedding vows these days. It was certainly something we decided to do for our wedding. This may form a part of your ceremony, or could be the basis of the whole thing. Writing vows means that you take a moment to share with you husband-to-be and your guests exactly what you think about things. It’s a declaration of your love and commitment in your words. It can be quite a sincere and emotional moment for any couple. But the big problem here is writing the right words to express exactly how you feel. Everyone can suffer from a little writer’s block. So it can be quite a scary decision to decide on whether you go down this route or not. The best advice is not to be too hasty with your decision. Perhaps explore the option of writing the vows and give them a try, you may find that you want to stick with a more traditional service. Many couples do that and go on to have long lasting marriages, you and your partner know exactly how you feel about one another.
The bridesmaid dresses
Choosing bridesmaid dresses is never going to be an easy decision, especially if you have a few bridesmaids to please. Not everyone has the same body shape, and people have preferences to what will suit their shape and style. It’s always going to be a tricky decision to make because you don’t want to offend anyone. This is when being firm with your objective is vital for taking the stress out of dress shopping. Do plenty of research in advance and discuss your main points with your bridesmaids. Try and not give them the chance to decide or sway you, unless of course; you want them to choose their own. Most bridesmaids will go along with your choice, after all, it is your day. So don’t bombard yourself with worry and try and enjoy the process.
The color scheme
Color schemes are not easy. It can be even harder if you don’t have an eye for these sorts of details. But a color scheme is what will be present throughout your whole decor, so it’s worth having a general idea of what you want. Of course, the reason why this can be quite a scary decision to make is that once the process begins it can be difficult to change your mind. Pinterest is a great source of inspiration with plenty of ideas on different color pallets you could use. Try and have a few colors that work well together, this way you have a few different options when it comes to decor.
The financial side of things
Finances are never an easy topic of conversation. But the scary decision is deciding what that budget will be. Weddings can be quite an expensive affair, so you need to ensure that what you want to spend, and what you can afford are in line with one another. Make sure you are happy with your decision, the last thing any brides wants is a feeling of regret on what should be one of the happiest days of their lives.
The guest list
Writing the guest list is never going to be easy. You will have a certain number that you want to stick to because of venues and price implications. So it may come to a point where you need to be brutal about who you invite. The best thing to consider is who you will want their to celebrate your day. Don’t worry about who you think should be there or people you don’t keep in touch with. This is your day, don’t make who comes a big stress in your planning process.
I hope this has made you feel a little brighter about those tough decisions ahead.
