With T’s 14th birthday coming up next week I’ve been searching for gift ideas. A purity ring is something I would love to buy her. I’ve looked at simple sterling silver bands and white gold diamond bands.
Purity was the focus on last Sunday’s sermon by the Pastor of our church. It’s also a topic T and I have discussed quite a bit now that she’s a teen. Most likely because I got pregnant with her when I was only 14 and gave birth to her when I was 15. I look at her now at this age and it makes me think back… Honestly I can’t even imagine her being a mom at this age or anywhere in the near future. It’s hard for me to even grasp that I became a mom at such a young age even though I lived it.
She feels strongly against teen pregnancy and is pretty outspoken about it. I’m sure living with a young, single mom hasn’t been the easiest. Living life in the correct order has been a life lesson I have focused on most her life.
I think she is ready for a purity ring. Even if we are the only ones that know what it symbolizes, it’ll be special. I remember when I received my first diamond ring, it was only small diamond clusters in a pave setting to form a small butterfly and I cherished that ring as a teen.
Do you remember your first ring? Did you have a purity ring when you were a teen?

What a great idea for a present!

Yes, I did get a purity ring for my 16th bday. I still wear it actually. It’s a tiny diamond solitaire in white gold, with a swirl/open band. I’d actually drawn the design on an index card and found it in the store a few days later. Diamonds are my birthstone, so I’ll probably always keep it.

I bought my own when I was about 17. My aunt and I who are close in age were together, and it was something we’d been talking a lot about, so we bought matching ones. They’re sterling silver bands that say True Love Waits around them. I loved that they had a sort of casual grungy style, no stones, and looked good with just about anything.
When Ryan asked me to marry him and gave me an engagement ring, I gave him the purity ring to hold onto. He kept it in the little ring box on his shelf, but he could have worn it on a manly necklace because it wasn’t girly. I liked that option.
The ring wasn’t a gift, or expensive, but we’ve saved it for one of our boys to give to his girlfriend, or daughter someday, because purity means a lot to us.
Right now? I’m wearing the band out of convenience because I’m hugely pregnant and my wedding band and none of my other rings fit. haha
