Planning a Sweet 16

I am going to be planning a Sweet 16 party to take place this summer.  I love planning parties, hosting parties and well… just everything about a party.  So needless to say, I’m excited!  Now on the other hand, I’m nervous.  A Sweet 16 is one of the most important parties for a girl.  I want it to be just right yet stay on a budget.  I’m sure you’ve seen that show My Super Sweet 16 where the famous (wealthy) teens go all out for their birthdays.  Don’t you wish we all had that kind of money, where expense wasn’t an issue?  I have even seen on that show where in the goodie-bags they will give away cell phones or Prada sunglasses to over 100 guests.  I think it goes without saying that the party I’m planning will not be that flashy.

I recently asked advice from the Party Planning Professor

, Elizabeth.  (I just love her site) She told me I should build on a theme.  I always envisioned themes for little ones.  Like Dora for my daughter, Spongebob for my son, etc.  I never thought of a Sweet 16 having a theme until Elizabeth gave me such great ideas.  Like a music party, MySpace theme or even a brand that she loves.  I saw some party favors and invites off a party site that was focused around Tiffany’s.  That was cute yet elegant.  Elizabeth asked me what the Sweet 16 was into.  Gosh, that’s tough.  A typical teenager: MySpace, music and can’t forget texting on cell phone.  What else?! We are estimating a invite list of 75, give or take a couple.  That includes friends from highschool and family.  Most all preteens or teens with exception of the adults who supervise.

I’m going to come up with a questionnaire for the Sweet 16 to fill in to better help come up with theme ideas.  For decorating and planning.  I would love some comments on what you think I should ask or if you have any ideas for the party.  I would appreciate any and all advice or great tips.  Remember we are trying to maintain somewhat of a budget, not too cheap but not overboard either.

If you own a product that you would like reviewed during this party or in preparation for this party I am open for suggestions.  I would love to review any clothing, makeup, spa treatments, hair care, food or party decor.  Not only would the product be reviewed on my blog but would get lots of exposure during the party.  I’m always up for trying new products!

I’m really glad the Sweet 16 party is nothing but a rumor in Northeast Wisconsin :) That’s not to say we won’t have a special party for Kendall that year, but I feel no pressure to go all out. We’ll probably stick to our rule (one friend per year since birth :) As for your party, hmm…without knowing her, I can’t offer much, except maybe doing something people wouldn’t expect? Like renting a campground and tenting it overnight. Think of the huge bonfire, marshmallows, etc. If they don’t already do stuff like that, they might think it would be a LOT of fun.
